As a dispute resolution professional (‘neutral’), Dr. Kamminga specializes in complex civil matters. Over the past two decades, he has successfully co-mediated numerous complex, multi-party civil disputes, including sophisticated financial disputes, large cross-border bankruptcies, complex insurance coverage cases, cybersecurity disputes, merger and acquisition (M&A) disputes, and high-stakes contractual matters related to construction, major developments, clean energy, and oil & gas projects. Dr. Kamminga is an Associate Professor at VU Amsterdam University and an affiliated scholar at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation. He has addressed more than 10,000 professionals across a dozen countries on collaboration and negotiation themes. He continues to lead discussions on topics such as collaboration, complex contracts, contract law and theory, contract design, negotiation, and mediation. His extensive collection of published works includes over fifty peer-reviewed articles and five books on dispute resolution, contracts, collaboration, and claim handling. Dr. Kamminga’s contributions have earned him various recognitions and awards, including the prestigious Veni grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Weinstein Fellowship from the JAMS Foundation.

Prestigious Affiliations and Contributions
He started out as in-house counsel and as a legal advisor at de Brauw Blackstone Westbroek (one of the Netherlands’ leading law firms) advising on arbitration cases and large complex disputes, and then wrote a Ph.D. Dr. Kamminga's academic career includes providing in-depth studies and counsel on access to justice, claim handling, and dispute resolution policies for clients such as the European Commission, The Dutch Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Infrastructure, various Dutch and U.S. insurance companies, international financial institutions, and multiple clients and contractors in the European and U.S. construction industries.
In 2011, Dr. Kamminga received the prestigious Veni grant from the NWO, allowing him to study optimal contract regimes and procurement methods. He has also held notable positions, including Co-chair of the Committee on the Future of ADR of the International Committee of the American Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution, director and scholar at the Global Infrastructure Institute, and member of the Committee on the Future of Construction of the World Economic Forum.
Educational Background
Dr. Kamminga studied both in the US and in Europe. He graduated from Columbia University (USA), Groningen University (Netherlands), and studied at Georg August University (Germany) and followed a Master in Conflict Management at studied at Maastricht University. He earned a Master in Conflict Management from Maastricht University and completed his Ph.D. while in residence at Stanford University, successfully defending it at both Tilburg University and Brussels University. Additionally, he has held academic affiliations UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, and Stanford University (Gould Center) in Palo Alto, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, and VU Amsterdam.
